Guarding Alberta’s Record

A letter from Wizcap’s President

Court reporting is in my blood. My father Jerry was an official court reporter here in Edmonton back in the days when you could smoke cigarettes during examinations. For 35 years, Jerry headlined NAIT’s Captioning & Court Reporting program, training me and the generation of court reporters you have teamed with here in Alberta and across Canada. Big shoes to fill.

Only the more senior counsel knew my father, but over the past 15 years, many of you have gotten to know me and my team – a group of reporters, I’m proud to say, who live up to the standard of excellence that my father championed his entire career.

WizCap is a reflection of a legacy of trust, commitment, and accountability – coupled with a passion for continuous learning. Our reporter-run team includes myself, a three-time North American shorthand speed champion, along with two provincial speed champions. I strive to lead by example, and I am confident that my dedication to this industry is shared by the rest of our team.

Proudly Albertan, we are professionals accountable to you. We are governed by Codes of Ethics as certified members of the Alberta Shorthand Reporters Association and as Commissioners for Oaths. Our experience runs the gamut from questionings and arbitrations to board hearings and event captioning.

The reverence we share for our role in our province’s legal system is what it means to be a part of the WizCap team.

Thank you, our colleagues, for entrusting us to guard your record, both in the past and in the future.

Yours,

Jeffrey Weigl CSR(A) RMR CRR
